Zoom: Remote Conferencing

Zoom Conference Solution

Connect with anyone, anywhere. On any device.

Zoom is available to use for voice and presentation/screen sharing needs. Zoom is a video conferencing tool with a web client, desktop client, and a mobile app that allows users to meet online, with or without video. Zoom users can choose to record sessions, collaborate on projects, and share screens, all with one platform. Zoom allows video, audio, and wireless screen-sharing across Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android.

This platform is designed to increase productivity and accessibility for our Faculty and Staff.  It is designed to be used in scenarios where individuals need to talk, conduct web conferencing, remote interviews or meetings, presentations, video conferences and more. The added capability of generated conference phone numbers is also a feature.

The links below offer access, information, and training on certain Zoom options, but please contact us if you have any additional questions.

Access:

Please access Zoom via our Ursinus Connect Portal (powered by Okta). You can log into the Ursinus Connect Portal using your Ursinus credentials, and then choose the “Zoom” selection box. If you do not currently have access to Zoom and you do not see an icon/chicklet for Zoom, please contact Tech Support.

You can also access the Ursinus Zoom login directly at https://ursinus-edu.zoom.us

Note: Please do not visit the main page of Zoom’s website and attempt to login there with your Ursinus credentials.  Please only visit https://ursinus-edu.zoom.us or http://connect.ursinus.edu to login to your Zoom account.

All Faculty and Staff have Licensed Zoom Pro accounts: A Licensed user can host unlimited meetings on the public cloud. They can host meetings with up to 300 participants. Licensed users have these additional features available:

  • Customize Personal Meeting ID
  • Record to the Zoom cloud
  • Be an alternative host
  • Assign others to schedule and schedule on behalf of
  • Customize Personal Link

Students are issued Basic Zoom accounts by default. A Basic user can host meetings with up to 100 participants. If 3 or more participants join, the meeting will time out after 40 minutes.

Check your Zoom licensing information here.

If a Student is in a leadership position and needs an upgrade to a Licensed Zoom Pro account, they should submit a request to Tech Support  and include approval from the organization’s advisor or supervising Faculty or Staff member.

Zoom Recordings

Zoom cloud recordings are automatically uploaded to Panopto. You should direct users to access your Zoom recordings in Panopto as Zoom recordings will be purged periodically to make more space for future recordings. To learn more about Panopto, consult https://go.ursinus.edu/panopto. If you do not see your Zoom recordings in Panopto, you can follow the instructions in this tutorial to move them over.

Other Options

Microsoft Teams remains an additional and readily available option for conferencing remotely. There is no need to request access because the entire Ursinus community (students, faculty, and staff) automatically has access via Office 365. Teams should be considered in situations where calling telephone phone numbers is NOT a necessity, access to additional team/college resources is desired, and Teams’ 250 participant limit is acceptable (Zoom has a 300-participant limit). Please call Tech Support for a consultation if you are making a decision about your best options based on your scenario. Options for larger conferencing resources must be requested and discussed.
